Report by the AMF:
The French supervisory authority, AMF, warns investors that in the last three months it has received a large number of reports from investors reporting the often aggressive practices of multi-level marketing companies (MLMs) offering forex trading or crypto-activity training through a pyramid recruitment and remuneration system.
The period of blockade implemented due to the spread of Covid-19 has favoured the development of the network of these platforms that leverage the feeling of urgency and the idea of a unique opportunity not to be missed. The AMF has received reports of proposed schemes that consist of selling training packages for trading in the forex market or in crypto-activities as bitcoins. Packages worth several hundred euros, sometimes including a monthly subscription, and include the recruitment of others.
The proposals are conveyed by messaging and social media apps, often through interesting videos, promising "good deals", "easy money", "passive income" and have been used to attract the attention of many internet users stuck at home, especially students. The slogans include "wealth is now! Create your global business" or "become a professional FX trader", "block profitably" or "copy, paste, cash in".
The French supervisory authorities, the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) and the Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution (ACPR) have updated the list of websites offering investments in derivatives and crypto-activity without authorisation.
