Supervision of banks providing investment services in Italy is shared between Consob and the Bank of Italy, according to a purpose-based criterion: Consob is responsible for ensuring transparency and fairness, while the Bank of Italy supervises soundness, risk containment and the sound and prudent management of banks.

The Bank of Italy is also responsible for maintaining the Register of Banks, an official list where information on Italian banks and non-Italian banks operating in Italy can be found.

Register of investment firms

Special section of trust companies (SIM fiduciarie)

The register provided for in Article 20 of Legislative Decree 58 of 24 February 1998 is for the following types of intermediaries:

A list of EU investment firms is attached to the register, as required by Article 20 of Legislative Decree 58 of 24 February 1998.

List of UK firms other than banks ‘passported' as of 31 December 2020 and that are no longer allowed to operate in Italy as of 1 January 2021

The lists of investment firms authorized in other EU countries are updated on the basis of the notifications received by the home country supervisory authorities only.
