50 years of CONSOB - CONSOB AND ITS ACTIVITIES
In 2024, CONSOB celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding. This milestone was honoured through a series of initiatives retracing the Institute’s journey from its establishment in 1974 to the present day, while highlighting its role in regulating and supervising Italy’s financial markets.
Commemorative Volume
In June, the volume “CONSOB - 50 Years of History: Regulation and Supervision of Financial Markets from 1974 to 2024” was published. It recounts half a century of CONSOB’s operations, closely intertwined with the evolution of Italy and European financial markets.
The book is organized into five chapters, each dedicated to one decade, offering an in‑depth view of the regulatory, institutional, and economic changes over time.
Study Conferences
Two study conferences, organized in collaboration with academic institutions, enriched the anniversary celebrations:
The first conference, held in cooperation with Sapienza University of Rome on October 24, 2024, followed the structure of the commemorative volume, with five sessions devoted to each decade of CONSOB’s activity.
The second conference, held with Bocconi University in Milan on March 14, 2025, focused on the challenges posed by evolving financial markets and the process of integration at the European level.
Both conferences featured participation from prominent figures in national and European institutions, as well as leading academics.
Institutional Communication Campaign
To reinforce its visibility and public recognition, CONSOB launched an institutional communication campaign across radio and television. The campaign’s informational spot emphasizes the Institute’s dedication to protecting savers, combating financial malpractice, and promoting financial education.
Commemorative Stamp and Coin
To mark the anniversary, two commemorative items were issued:
A postage stamp, part of the thematic series “The Excellence of Knowledge”, bearing the 50th‑anniversary CONSOB logo.
A 5‑euro silver coin, featuring on one side a stylized CONSOB logo, and on the other a stock‑market graph enclosed within two hands - symbolizing the Institute’s safeguarding role in the financial system.
