The Secretary General assists the Chairman and the Board members in performing their duties of guidance and control, collaborating, in particular, on the definition and verification of regulatory strategies and of strategic and operating plans. The General Secretary is appointed, based on the Chairman's proposal, by a Commission resolution.

The Secretary General is supported by the General Secretariat in the performance of his duties.
